OK, Indy, it’s been a few months since the Super Bowl, so maybe it’s time for a dose of reality. Indianapolis certainly turned some heads among the flurry of visitors for the Big Game, but we still have work to do before we become a Super City that ranks with The Big Apple, LaLa Land, and The Windy City.
In today’s infographic, NPR rates Indy in only one of a dozen categories: Most DUI Citations. It’s part of the network’s features on urban life in the 21st Century.
In an aggregate of various and sundry rankings, Indy only ranks #2 for “Manliest Sports Cities” (insert eyeroll here) and #3 for “High Gas Prices.”
Then there’s last November, when we rated #2 in a listing of “Emptiest Cities” for all the vacancies we have throughout the city.
When you delve into the methodology for these rankings, you can also find exceptions for why we might not quite deserve the scores we get.
So, do we deserve some of the bad ratings, or even some of the good ones? Are they a true value of the worth of Indianapolis and its citizens? Can they provide a yardstick from which we can set goals to improve? Should we care?
What ratings do you think Indy ranks best and worst in?
